Hugo Cabret vince i premi della National Board of Review

Da oggi, Hugo Cabret ha maggiori chance di entrare a far parte dei titoli nominati nella categoria di miglior film agli Oscar 2012 grazie alla vittoria ai premi del National Board of Review (solitamente i primi premi della critica, ma quest'anno soppiantati dai premi del NYFCC). Per alcuni non sarà una sorpresa, per altri no. La considerazione che si può fare è che in questi primi due premi della critica sono emerse pellicole che effettivamente possono avere moltissima presa sulla critica. Curiosamente, infatti, sia Hugo Cabret che The Artist sono un tributo al Cinema con la C maiuscola, agli albori dell'arte cinematografica: l'Academy avrà la stessa reazione? Difficile a dirsi, è francamente improbabile.

Statisticamente, negli ultimi sei anni due titoli su sei che sono stati premiati al NBR hanno anche ottenuto l'oscar come miglior film: The Millionaire e Non è un paese per vecchi. Stessa statistica per migliore attore, anche se in anni diversi: Forest Whitaker e Phillip Seymour Hoffman. Di migliore attrice, attrici e attori non protagonisti ne hanno azzeccato solo uno negli ultimi sei anni. Cosa significa tutto questo? Quello che abbiamo detto anche in altre occasioni: la maggior parte dei premi della critica, presi singolarmente, non danno indicazioni specifiche sugli Oscar. Tuttavia, mano a mano che vengono assegnati, fanno emergere dei trend.

A differenza dei NYFCC, per esempio, i NBR hanno riconosciuto Drive e J. Edgar. Da notare l'assenza, nella top ten, di Midnight in Paris, The Help e Moneyball, così come la presenza di Harry Potter e i Doni della Morte - Parte 2 e il premio a Rango come miglior film di animazione.
