Marie Colvin è stata reporter di guerra per il Sunday Times dal 1985 fino alla sua morte, a Homs (città della Siria orientale), nel 2012. Bella e talentuosa, ha vinto numerosi premi, convinto Arafat a raccontarle la sua vita e Gheddafi a farsi intervistare ben due volte. In Sri Lanka aveva perso un occhio e guadagnato un coraggio da pirata. Era stata a Timor Est, in Cecenia, in Iraq, Afghanistan, Libia e Kosovo. Con il fotografo freelance Paul Conroy aveva stretto un sodalizio professionale che durò fino alla fine.
