Toronto International Film Festival 2022: un programma ricchissimo e molto popolare

È stata annunciata ieri la lineup completa del Toronto International Film Festival (8 - 18 settembre), che torna in grande spolvero rispetto all'anno scorso con un'edizione sostanzialmente pre-pandemica (cinema a massima capacità, no mascherine, no green pass, conferenze stampa dal vivo ecc). Ben 260 i film che verranno presentati, di cui 9 anteprime mondiali, 18 anteprime e 45 eventi speciali.

Quello di Toronto è uno dei più importanti festival autunnali: assieme a Venezia, è un vero trampolino di lancio per gli Oscar, e spesso il film vincitore del premio del pubblico si ritrova tra i nominati dell'Academy. La differenza con Venezia, che lo precede di poco, è proprio l'assenza di una competizione vera e propria, e il programma di quest'anno si differenzia grandemente per la scarsità di pellicole d'autore.

Le anteprime mondiali sono Glass Onion: a Knives Out Mystery di Rian Johnson, The Swimmers di Sally El Hosaini (film d'apertura, proposto da Netflix come White Noise a Venezia), On the Come Up di Sanaa Lathan, Brother di Clement Virgo, Bros di Billy Eichner, My Policeman con Harry Styles, The Woman King di Viola Davis, The Fablemans di Steven Spielberg, Catherine Called Birdy di Lena Dunham. Ci sono poi film Veneziani come The Banshees of Inisherin di Martin McDonagh e The Whale di Darren Aronofsky e The Son di Florian Zeller. Inoltre troviamo Empire of Light di Sam Mendes, A Jazzman's Blues di Tyler Perry, The Greatest Beer Run Ever di Peter Farrelly, Prisoner's Daughter di Catherine Hardwicke. E ancora, evidenziamo Causeway con Jennifer Lawrence, Butcher's Crossing con Nicolas Cage, The Good Nurse con Jessica Chastain ed Eddie Redmayne, The Menu con Anya Taylor-Joy, Nicholas Hoult e Ralph Fiennes, What's Love got to do with it? con Emma Thompson e Lily James, Judi Dench in Allelujah, The Lost King di Stephen Frears con Sally Hawkins e Steve Coogan. L'Italia è rappresentata da The Hummingbird - Il colibrì, di Francesca Archibugi.

Toronto è un festival estremamente "popolare", dove il pubblico è il vero padrone. Prima della pandemia, nel 2019, vi furono ben 307 mila biglietti staccati. L'obiettivo di quest'anno è tornare a cifre simili.
