Rotten Tomatoes rivoluziona il voto del pubblico: arriva "Verified Hot", cosa significa per la critica?

È accaduto spesso di notare una certa discrepanza sull'aggregatore di recensioni Rotten Tomatoes tra i giudizi della critica e quelli del pubblico.

Uno degli esempi recenti più eclatanti è dato da The Acolyte, che ha ottenuto un 78% dalla critica e un disastroso 18% dal pubblico. Lo stesso dicasi per il contrario, come quando il film di Super Mario ha ottenuto un punteggio "marcio" da parte della critica (59%) e un gradimento elevatissimo da parte del pubblico (95%).

Rotten Tomatoes e Fandango hanno così deciso di introdurre un nuovo punteggio per premiare i progetti più popolari e ad alimentare il passaparola positivo per film e serie.

Fino ad oggi i film nel database di Rotten Tomatoes ricevevano due punteggi del pubblico, di cui uno già verificato (fornendo prova di acquisto del biglietto tramite la piattaforma Fandango). Con l'ultima novità, però, i film più popolari sulla base di valutazioni e recensioni verificate riceveranno lo status e il badge "Verified Hot".

Le condizioni necessarie, come spiegato sul sito, saranno:

• Avere un punteggio del pubblico verificato del 90% o superiore;

• Avere un minimo di 500+ valutazioni verificate per i film di ampia distribuzione;

• Avere un minimo di 250+ valutazioni verificate per i film di distribuzione limitata;

• Anche i titoli repertorio (come le riedizioni di classici) sono idonei per questa designazione.

Cosa significa per la critica?

Prima di oggi l'unico metro di giudizio "ufficiale" per definire l'accoglienza positiva di un film su Rotten Tomatoes era il voto della critica, "Certified Fresh", sbandierato sui social dalle distribuzioni e negli spot pubblicitari.

Con l'introduzione di Verified Hot si finisce così per equiparare il giudizio della critica al voto popolare verificato, mettendoli sullo stesso piano.

La conseguenza più diretta è che nelle situazioni corrispondenti al caso di Super Mario, le compagnie potranno glissare sulle recensioni della critica nella loro comunicazione ed esaltare così il responso degli spettatori.

I primi film Verified Hot

Il sito ha annunciato così i primi 200 titoli che rientrano nella nuova categoria usciti a partire da maggio 2019, quando cioè sono stati introdotti per la prima volta i punteggi verificati. Visto che non c'è modo di verificare la fruizione di una serie televisiva, il punteggio vale solo per i film.
