È Dragon Trainer 2 a trionfare agli Annie Award, i premi di categoria degli animatori, che solitamente predicono l'Oscar

Dopo aver vinto il premio come miglior film d'animazione ai 72esimi Golden Globe Awards, Dragon Trainer 2 ha trionfato anche alla 42esima edizione degli Annie Awards, i premi di categoria degli animatori che solitamente fungono da forte indicatore su chi vincerà il premio come miglior film d'animazione durante la notte degli Oscar.

Si tratta di un importante traguardo per la DreamWorks Animation, giunto a pochi giorni dall'annuncio della chiusura della divisione PDI e del licenziamento di 500 persone: un segnale che servirà senza dubbio a tirare su il morale dell'azienda in un momento difficile.

Il film ha ottenuto il premio come miglior film d'animazione, miglior regista (Dean DeBlois), miglior character animation (Fabio Lignini), montaggio (John K. Carr) e colonna sonora (John Powell e Jònsi).

The LEGO Movie ha vinto il premio per la miglior sceneggiatura, Il Libro della Vita il miglior character design, Big Hero 6 migliori effetti animati e Boxtrolls - Le Scatole Magiche migliori scenografie e doppiaggio.
