New York Film Critics Circle, La La Land è il miglior film

La settimana di premi della critica prosegue. Dopo i Gotham Awards (che hanno visto trionfare Moonlight) e la National Board of Review (che ha premiato Manchester By the Sea), è La La Land il miglior film del 2016 secondo il New York Film Critics Circle, importante associazione composta da 37 critici dell'area di New York.

L'anno scorso il gruppo scelse Carol come miglior film, e si allineò agli Oscar nell'assegnare il premio come migliore attore a Mark Rylance per Il Ponte delle Spie e a Inside Out come miglior film d'animazione.

Nonostante La La Land abbia vinto il premio più importante, Moonlight e Manchester by the Sea hanno ottenuto più riconoscimenti del film di Damien Chazelle, tra cui Casey Affleck come migliore attore e Michelle Williams come migliore attrice non protagonista, miglior sceneggiatura a Kenneth Lonergan, miglior regista a Barry Jenkins e miglior attore non protagonista a Mahershala Ali.

Ancora una volta ribadiamo che i premi della critica non hanno influenza sugli Oscar, e tuttavia sono un indicatore dei film sui quali si concentrerà maggiormente la stagione dei premi.

• Best first film: (tie) Kelly Fremon Craig’s The Edge of Seventeen and Trey Edwards Shults Krisha

• Best foreign film: Toni Erdmann (Germany)

• Best non-fiction film (documentary): O.J.: Made in America

• Special Awards: Editor Thelma Schoonmaker, the other for Julie Dash’s Daughters of the Dust 25th Anniversary Restoration
