Michael K. Williams è morto

Michael K. Williams è morto a 54 anni: l'attore era noto per i suoi ruoli nelle serie tv The Wire e nel più recente Lovecraft Country. Secondo le prime ricostruzioni fornite da New York Post e dal Daily News (ripresi da TV Line), nell'appartamento dell'attore sarebbero stati trovati oggetti per l'assunzione di droghe, e la stessa fonte originale sottolinea che Williams fin dall'età di 19 anni aveva lottato contro la dipendenza. Tuttavia al momento non ci sono conferme circa le cause del decesso.

Per quanto riguarda la sua carriera in tv, Michael K. Williams rimane molto legato al ruolo di Omar nella serie tv della HBO The Wire, nella quale aveva recitato per le sue cinque stagioni. Ma in generale tutta la sua carriera lo aveva portato più volte a partecipare a progetti dell'importantissima emittente americana. Ricordiamo Boardwalk Empire, The Night Of, fino al suo lavoro più recente in Lovecraft Country. Aveva partecipato anche alla serie Community e al progetto When They See Us.

Al cinema, aveva esordito nel 1999 in Al di là della vita di Martin Scorsese. Tra gli altri ruoli sul grande schermo si ricordano Miracolo a Sant'Anna di Spike Lee, ma anche 12 anni schiavo, Anarchia - La notte del giudizio fino al recente Motherless Brooklyn - I segreti di una città.

Tra le prime testimonianze d'affetto, quella di Isiah Whitlock Jr, suo collega in The Wire, che ha ricordato Williams come "Uno dei fratelli più simpatici del pianeta, e con il cuore più grande. Un attore e un'anima straordinari".
