Independent Spirit Awards 2020: The Lighthouse e Uncut Gems guidano le nomination

Sono state annunciate le nomination dell'edizione 2020 dei Film Independent Spirit Awards, che anche quest'anno danno il via ufficialmente alla stagione dei premi, e a dominare nelle 19 categorie vi sono The Lighthouse di Robert Eggers e Uncut Gems di Benny Safdie & Josh Safdie con cinque candidature ciascuno. Give me Liberty e Honey Boy ottengono quattro candidature, mentre Clemency, Le Ragazze di Wall Street - Hustlers e The Last Black Man in San Francisco, Luce e The Third Wife ne ottengono tre ciascuna.

Marriage Story di Noah Baumbach è stato selezionato per il Robert Altman Award: il riconoscimento va al regista, al direttore del casting e al cast, il che impedisce agli attori di ottenere altre nomination.

Colpisce la sostanziale assenza di Waves e The Peanut Butter Falcon, pellicole tra le favorite per l'edizione di quest'anno, mentre gli ottimi risultati di film come Hustlers e ovviamente The Lighthouse, Uncut Gems e Honey Boy potrebbero dar loro grande visibilità nella stagione dei premi.

Anche per questa 35esima edizione è lo studio indipendente A24 a guidare le nomination con ben 18 candidature (l'anno scorso erano 12), Neon ne ottiene 10, Amazon 8 e Netflix 7.

La cerimonia di premiazione si terrà a Santa Monica l'8 febbraio, la sera prima degli Academy Awards. Le nomination agli Spirit Awards vengono decise da un comitato di una cinquantina di membri e successivamente votate dagli oltre 6.000 membri dell'associazione Film Independent. I film candidabili devono essere prodotti negli Stati Uniti con un budget inferiore ai 22.5 milioni di dollari.

Vi ricordiamo che un anno fa Se la strada potesse parlare vinse il premio più importante, che l'anno prima invece andò a Scappa - Get Out. I quattro anni precedenti i vincitori dello Spirit come miglior film ottennero anche il rispettivo Oscar.
