A guidare le nomination di quest'anno era stato Winter's Bone, con 7 nomination, ma è Il Cigno Nero - Black Swan a conquistare il maggior numero di riconoscimenti, portando a casa quello per il miglior film, miglior regista, migliore attrice e miglior direzione della fotografia. James Franco (conduttore degli Oscar 2011 assieme ad Anne Hathaway) vince il premio come miglior attore per 127 Ore, mentre Il Discorso del Re (grande favorito agli Oscar) vince quello per il miglior film straniero. Banksy, infine, porta a casa il premio per il miglior documentario per Exit Through the Gift Shop.
