Directors Guild Awards 2021: vince per Nomadland, Chloé Zhao entra nella storia
Chloé Zhao è la prima donna non bianca a vincere il prestigioso Directors Guild Award per Nomadland: prossimo passo, l'Oscar
I premi del sindacato dei registi sono un importante indicatore sui nominati alla categoria corrispondente agli Oscar, così come sui vincitori. Dal 1950, sono otto le volte in cui il vincitore del DGA Award non ha ottenuto l’Oscar come miglior regista (l’ultima volta nel 2020, quando Sam Mendes ottenne il DGA ma l'Oscar andò a Bong Joon-Ho).
Zhao ha ritirato il premio via videoconferenza, e ha ringraziato tutti gli altri nominati, e in particolare Emerald Fennell: "Sei così in controllo della tua arte, e hai una voce così unica. Non vedo l'ora di vedere dove ci porterai nel tuo viaggio provocatorio."
