Independent Spirit Awards: Birdman miglior film, Linklater miglior regista

Come da tradizione, si sono svolti 24 ore prima degli Oscar gli Independent Spirit Awards. Giunti alla 30esima edizione, i premi sono organizzati dalla Film Independent (associazione nonprofit a sostegno delle arti), e si preoccupano di premiare il cinema indipendente americano. Ma anche quest'anno molti tra i film premiati sono anche candidati agli Oscar, se non sono addirittura i favoriti.

Boyhood ha trionfato in due categorie, ovvero migliore attrice non protagonista (Patricia Arquette) e miglior regista, ma è stato battuto da Birdman come miglior film, che ha vinto anche come miglior attore protagonista (Michael Keaton) e miglior fotografia. Due i premi per Nightcrawler, inclusa migliore sceneggiatura, mentre Whiplash ha ottenuto il premio come miglior montaggio e miglior attore non protagonista (J.K. Simmons).
