La selezione è completa, e il risultato è un numero record di 71 paesi in lizza per ottenere una delle nomination all'Oscar come miglior film straniero all'85esima edizione degli Academy Awards. Come noto, il film italiano sarà Cesare deve Morire dei fratelli Taviani; per la prima volta nella storia parteciperà anche il Kenya, con il film Nairobi Half Life.
